A Boat Tour of Elmastukwek

This week Experience Qalipu and Saltbox Everoutdoor Adventures teamed up to host a boat tour for seniors of Elmastukwek (Bay of Islands)! It was a beautiful day on the water with many sights and stories from the guide and guests who were from the area. Guests on the boat were able to soak in the remaining heat of summer, take in the smells of the ocean and also caught glimpses of kitpus (eagles) soaring above. On the boat tour, they took guests to Humber Arm North and shared the location of a shipwreck and for eagle viewing. Guests were then brought to Woods Island. Woods Island was once a booming community and known as the capital of the Bay of Islands until it was eventually resettled. Then guests were taken near the base of the Blow Me Down mountain range which gave them a spectacular view and photo opportunity. On the way back to the Saltbox, guests were also shown were a volcano once was in Frenchman’s Cove as well as other significant locations. The guests on board were also sharing stories of their childhoods in Elmastukwek as some were from there and still reside there. Once back at the Saltbox (located in Benoit’s Cove), they were treated to great food such as mussels and pan fried cod & chips. Along with their food music was shared and connections were made.
